The University of South Carolina Upstate seeks a dynamic academic leader to serve as Vice Provost and Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The Vice Provost will work closely with the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs as well as the Deans to oversee faculty hiring, development, support, and evaluation, enabling Upstate to attract and retain the very best teacher-scholars; supervises the Directors of the Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning, Learning Technologies, the Office of Sponsored Awards and Research Support, and the Office of Distance Education; oversees graduate programs, with the expectation of increasing the number of master’s degree programs offered at the University. USC Upstate operates a campus in the nearby city of Greenville and the Director of the Greenville campus reports to the Vice Provost. Administratively, the Vice Provost is responsible for overseeing assessment of academic programs and is the SACSCOC point person for the Office of Academic Affairs and works closely with the institution’s accreditation liaison. In addition, the Vice Provost will provide professional development programs for current academic, as well as future, academic leaders.
USC Upstate is seeking teacher-scholars who have a commitment to excellence in teaching and working with a diverse student population and show clear potential for scholarly research and publication. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in student and civic engagement, and active learning pedagogies, such as service-learning, mentoring undergraduate research, and the scholarship of teaching, learning and application; and experience with teaching online or hybrid courses. USC Upstate provides extensive support for junior faculty including competitive professional-development funding, opportunities for student-faculty research collaboration, and a range of workshops and mentoring programs to develop our strengths as teacher-scholars.

Required Education and Experience

The successful candidate will have: an earned doctorate from an accredited university and be qualified to be tenured preferably in a discipline taught at USC Upstate; teaching experience and demonstrated understanding of faculty development as well as faculty culture and promotion processes; experience fostering diversity as a goal in areas of faculty hiring, development and retention; a minimum of 3 years (5 years preferred) of leadership experience in administrative positions within a university setting (e.g., dean, department chair, director, associate dean), and extensive knowledge of academic administration, policies, and procedures; and experience with accreditation and academic program assessment.
