Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Trades Specialist IV – Zone Maintenance Worker will perform various duties which include adjustments and repairs of the residence halls buildings, fixtures, and equipment in a variety of crafts such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and locksmith. This position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement/ hazardous weather and other emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

High school diploma and 3 years directly related trade experience.

Valid Driver’s License Required.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of general maintenance.
Trade School or Apprenticeship helpful.


Skilled in the use of various trade tools. Skilled in making general repairs and adjustments to equipment used in building and maintenance work. Ability to work independently in a service oriented environment subject to frequent changing priorities. Ability to understand and apply University and Departmental policies and procedures.
Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to perform manual labor. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to use judgment and initiative to complete routine work without constant supervision. Ability to work on a ladder.
