Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Associate Director for Strategic Technology Initiatives, the Senior Business Analyst is responsible for managing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and testing data integrations and upgrades for/between USC’s student information system (Ellucian Banner) and other databases. This position also assists with reporting activities in Undergraduate Admissions. S/he ensures the consistency and accuracy of data elements affected by all data bridges and writes reports used to verify integrity of data residing in Banner.

The Senior Business Analyst will assist with researching industry best practices regarding use and application of technology within a large, high-volume admissions operation. S/he will use such knowledge to guide and automate business processes within Banner. This position also shares responsibility for creating, managing, and producing reports for internal and external constituents.

This position supervises one full-time Applications Analyst whom s/he will train to assist with data analysis, reporting, and database testing and integration tasks. Additionally, the Senior Business Analyst works closely with the Assistant Director for Student Information Systems on data security, system access, and system upgrades. S/he will contribute to departmental team activities; limited involvement with recruitment activities such as on/off campus recruitment events is required.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Systems or related field and 2 years systems related experience; or equivalency.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge and experience with the following are highly desirable: Ellucian Banner Student Information System and Cognos reporting tools; SQL queries and databases; Technolutions Slate CRM; and common statistical software packages such as SAS or SPSS.

Must possess knowledge of relational databases and data integrations. Must possess knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics. Must be able to produce and interpret statistics, and to explain statistical results in ways that others can easily understand. Must be able to work independently and with little direct supervision but also collaboratively as a member of a team. Must possess and maintain a customer-friendly, positive attitude. Must be able to cultivate and manage key relationships. Must be able to negotiate with and persuade others. Must communicate well verbally and in writing. Analytical and problem-solving abilities required. Must be able to supervise. Must be able to withstand occasional interruptions to work and respond to reporting demands by established deadlines, sometimes on short notice.
