Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Responsible for independently performing complex duties with respect to the semi-monthly payrolls for all faculty and staff including the accurate processing of position and job separations and related Annual Leave payouts in an ERP HR/Payroll system in accordance with established University policies and procedures, as well as federal and state regulations. This includes calculating and analyzing leave without pay calculations, salary overpayment calculations, and working with the Payroll Operations Manager on special projects. Provides guidance to employees concerning complex payroll issues.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and 6 years professional accounting experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Oracle’s PeopleSoft HCM and Time and Labor applications and/or other ERP payroll systems. Knowledge of MicroSoft Office Excel and Word, Access, Database Management, and PowerPoint.
Previous FLSA training and understanding, including principles of overtime calculations.
Experience with payroll and tax reporting requirements. Understanding of leave transfer rules, and other leave requirements, for the State of South Carolina.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Employee must have working knowledge of timekeeping and overtime reporting practices, as well as payroll accounting principles and practices. Employee must have solid understanding of FLSA regulations. Employee should be proficient in mathematical concepts with the ability to analyze and interpret related data. Employee must be have the ability to apply procedures in accordance with regulatory guidance, and an ability to update systems when new rules and regulations are introduced. Employee must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Employee must have the ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
