Position Description

The College of Engineering and Computing at the University of South Carolina is in the process of expanding its tenured and tenure-track faculty members. As part of this growth, the Biomedical Engineering Program (http://biomed.cec.sc.edu) seeks dynamic new tenured and tenure-track faculty members (at all ranks) for Fall 2018. We also desire candidates whose expertise aligns with vital cross-cutting initiatives identified by the college. For details on these initiatives, please visit: http://cec.sc.edu/employment.

In alignment with these initiatives, research themes of particular interest to the Biomedical Engineering Program are those related to Healthcare Transformations and Smart & Agile Manufacturing. Examples of research areas of interest include disease detection & diagnostics, biomarker identification, biosystems modeling, bioimaging, biosensing, bioelectronics, responsive therapies, personalized medicine, and biomanufacturing.

Engineering-based core Biomedical Engineering faculty have appointments within one of the seven Departments within the College, in accordance with their research and professional preparation. The selected candidate will be affiliated as core faculty with the Biomedical Engineering Program, which is administered by the College of Engineering and Computing in collaboration with the School of Medicine. The Biomedical Engineering Program possesses current research strengths in areas including tissue engineering, biomaterials, biomechanics, drug development, drug delivery, and computational modeling of biomedical systems. The Program offers BS, ME, MS, and Ph.D. degrees, currently supporting over 350 undergraduate and graduate students with a faculty comprising over 20 members.

Required Education and Experience

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering or another relevant field of engineering or computing, possess a demonstrated record of research accomplishments, and demonstrate dedication to graduate and undergraduate education within the Biomedical Engineering Program. The successful candidate will be expected to develop internationally-recognized, externally-funded research programs that complement existing departmental strengths.
