Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

This person is the research coordinator, laboratory manager, and right-hand person to the director of the Human Performance Laboratory (HPL) and all research activities that fall under the HPL. Organizes, oversees, and administratively supports the activities and employees of the HPL, in collaboration with the School of Medicine Greenville and Greenville Health System.

The HPL Clinical Research Coordinator/Manager will facilitate the research and instructional goals of the department by training HPL staff, undergraduate, graduate and medical students in essential research procedures and enforcing routine health and safety procedures. Also, he/she will work effectively and compassionately with research participants and patients who participate in the research projects.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Master’s degree in a related field and 3 years related research experience, or bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5 years related research experience; or high school diploma and 9 years related research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in exercise science preferred. Strong background in exercise physiology, fitness, wellness and being aware and able to perform physical/fitness training. Previous research coordination, managerial, laboratory and administration experience. Project management from planning to execution. Strong written and oral communication skills.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

General understanding, application of work physiology and clinical exercise physiology; training in phlebotomy is desirable. Ability to understand and follow complex technical instructions.
Knowledge of laboratory facilities, methods, equipment and materials, purchasing, maintaining inventory, as well as compliance with standards, laws, and regulations.
Knowledge of calibration methods, lab mechanics, machine tools and maintenance equipment.
Proficient with computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to set up functions, enter data, or process information, as well as general word processing, graphics, presentation software.
Ability to plan, schedule and oversee the activities of others.
Ability to work independently; as well as ability to work cooperatively with and communicate effectively to research participants, patients, coworkers, other departments, and other institutions or businesses
